What is Blackboard Learn for the Apple iPhone?

Blackboard Learn for the Apple iPhone is an application that lets users receive notifications of changes and updates to their Blackboard courses and organizations in their iPhone or iPod touch device. These include updates on new Assignments, Course Content, Study Group updates, Community Discussions, even Grades. This results in a seamless learning environment, extended to the places and devices learners prefer, through a secure, centrally hosted service. Currently this application is only available in English.

How does Blackboard Learn for the Apple iPhone work?

The application is installed by an iPhone/iPod touch user on their device to provide access to their own Blackboard data through the iPhone/iPod touch. This data transfer (synchronization) between the end user and their Blackboard institution is securely managed by the Blackboard Sync™ central service. Through the synchronization process, user's Blackboard data is copied down to their device for access when the user does not have a 3G or WiFi network connection.

Who can use Blackboard Learn for the Apple iPhone?

Blackboard Learn for the Apple iPhone and iPod touch is available to users at Blackboard institutions running the Blackboard Learning System™, Release 7.1 or higher or Blackboard Learn for Course Delivery - Enterprise license, Release 9.0. The application will function without any action from these institutions; however some clients prefer to block the service.

How can users get Blackboard Learn for the Apple iPhone?

Blackboard Learn for the Apple iPhone will be available for users to download through the Apple iTunes App Store as of March 26, 2009.  Version 1.0.1 is available as of Monday, July 6th, 2009 and includes a number of fixes and compatibility with the iPhone 3.0.  

In order to benefit from Blackboard Learn for the Apple iPhone, users must be enrolled at an institution running the Blackboard Learning System, Release 7.1 or higher or Blackboard Learn for Course Delivery - Enterprise license, Release 9.0.

If you are at a Blackboard institution that has currently enabled the application, you can simply click here to download the app today. Please note that you must also have iTunes installed on your computer. If you do not have iTunes installed on your computer, please go to the Apple website to download iTunes and access the App Store.
