As of this application pack, Firefox 1.5 for Mac OS software remains unsupported. (However, Firefox for Microsoft Windows operating system is supported as of Service Pack 3.) Testing with this browser has revealed significant issues with the implementation of the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) in Firefox 1.5 for Mac OS software. The issues include the following:
Chat applet will not load.
Who's Online chat invitations cannot be sent of received.
The root cause of these problems are issues around the implementation of the Java Embedded Plug-in (JEP) added to Firefox 1.5. This is a known issue in Firefox that has been logged in the Mozilla bug database. As a result of these JRE issues, Firefox 1.5 for Mac OS operating system software remains unsupported with Vista and CE. It is possible to manually edit the Browser Configuration file to list Firefox 1.5 for Mac OS operating system software as supported. This will result in the browser showing as supported for the entire server. Before editing, carefully consider the impact this action may have. For help in configuring the Browser Checker, contact Blackboard Support at http://www.blackboard.com/support.
