The address should be the one that you typically enter to get to your Blackboard server and/or the first part of the address that is displayed in the browser address bar when you are in Blackboard.
For example, if when you are logged into Blackboard you see something like this in your browser address bar:
If you have trouble figuring out this URL, you should ask your local campus administrator or help desk for assistance.
2. After adding my schools server URL, I cannot login and I get the following message "Invalid username and password"?
Your institution may be using a separate authentication system, instead of the default Blackboard authentication.
Some institutions take this approach so that users have one identity that they use for Blackboard, email, the campus network, and other university technology services. In these situations, the Blackboard Learn applications, both for iPhone and Facebook, do not have a way to interact with that separate authentication service to confirm the identity of the end user.
If this is the case, then your Blackboard system administrator will need to install an extension on the Blackboard server to enable authentication to occur.
3. I just entered my server URL, but it says "your institute is blocking sync for Blackboard"?
The error message indicates that your institution has made the decision not to allow its users to sync Blackboard information to Facebook or the iPhone. You will not be able to use the Facebook or iPhone apps with your courses for your school.
This is the institution's decision. Should you wish to encourage your institution to reverse that decision, you will need to take up the matter with your institution's Blackboard system administrator or your institution's help desk
4. What version of Blackboard is required and How do I know if the IPhone App works with my school?
The Blackboard Learn application for the iPhone and iPod touch requires release 7.1 or higher of Blackboard Learn (formerly known as Blackboard Academic Suite or Blackboard Learning System).
NOTE: The Blackboard Learn for iPhone application is not supported on the Vista and CE licenses (the former WebCT products). As customers with the Vista and CE licenses upgrade to Blackboard Learn, Release 9 or later, this application will become available to them. If you are unable to locate the version of Blackboard your institution has licensed, you can obtain this information by contacting your local system administrator.
Blackboard Inc. can't tell you whether your institution has blocked access to the iPhone app or not - that is an institutional decision.
Blackboard advises you to either try to configure the iPhone app to access your institution's Blackboard system, or to ask your institution's Blackboard system administrator or help desk
5. What is my pin # and how do I obtain one?
If your Blackboard Learn iPhone application requests a PIN, then this means that your institution has decided that you must authenticate into Blackboard first to identify yourself, instead of entering your username and password in the Blackboard iPhone application.
(Note: Not all institutions require a PIN to configure the Blackboard Learn iPhone application. You only need a PIN if the iPhone app's interface specifically prompts you for one.)
You should open a browser, and log in to your Blackboard system as you usually do. On the main page, you will likely see a Tools Panel on the left. In that you should see a "Blackboard Sync" link. Click the "Blackboard Sync" link and follow the instructions to be issued a PIN by your institution's Blackboard server.
6. I downloaded it and put in my credentials, but all I get is the scholar tab?
The issue where nothing but the Scholar button shows up is an indicator that your initial synchronization did not complete. There are several ways this can occur:
• The server may have timed out
• You may have been trying to sync over a WiFi network which required you to login before accessing the WiFi, and you weren't logged in yet
• You may have quit the Bb Learn iPhone application before the initial synchronization finished.
A workaround is to force a re-sync with your institution. You can do this by changing one of the settings. Tap settings (the gear icon in the lower right), and then tap the Show setting. Change it from 7 days (the default) to 14 days. This will force the iPhone application to re-sync to get that extra 7 days worth of data. Click Back and then Back again to get to the home screen. When you click that last Back to get to the home screen, the iPhone application will attempt to re-sync.
You will see the spinning wheel in the title bar indicating the Sync is occurring. Let that sync continue until it completes.
UPDATED: Version 1.0.1 of the Blackboard Learn for iPhone application has fixed this issue
