Administrator Troubleshooting of End User Login Issues
After the system administrator has installed the Blackboard Scholar Building Block, there are several primary access points to Scholar placed into the Blackboard Academic Suite: the Scholar tab, the My Scholar Home tool link in courses, the Scholar Course Home tool link in a course. Optionally, the system administrator can also add a Scholar link in the Tool Panel on the My Institution page. These links enable account creation on the Blackboard Scholar web service (http://www.scholar.com/) for end users and subsequent to account creation, they provide seamless login to Blackboard Scholar from the Blackboard Academic Suite for end users who have created accounts.

If you are seeing a "Login" link then that means these links are re-directing to  the public view of Scholar (e.g. http://www.scholar.com). You can confirm this  by looking at the blue bar under the Scholar logo. If you are viewing the public version of Scholar, the welcome message will say "Hello, Public User."

There are only two ways this can happen from within the Blackboard Academic Suite

1. You are accessing Scholar without having authenticated into Blackboard. E.g. you are running Community System with Portal Direct Entry enabled and the Scholar tab is enabled for un-authenticated users, or you have accessed a course as a Guest.

2. There has been a problem with your Scholar Building Block registration.

Assuming you are not testing this via portal direct entry or guest access, there may be an issue with your Building Block registration.

If you are a system administrator, you can confirm this from the System Admin Panel: click on Building Blocks, then click on the Properties button next to the Scholar Building Block, then click on Register Blackboard Server. It should either say "Server is already registered" or display the registration form.

If your Blackboard system has not been registered with Scholar, your users will not be able to create accounts. Please go ahead and register it. After registration, users should be automatically presented with the new Scholar account creation page.

If your Blackboard system HAS been registered, then there is some other problem that needs troubleshooting. If this is the case, please open a case with Blackboard Support.
