Accounts on Multiple Blackboard Learning System servers

Under some circumstances you may wish to have Scholar associated with more than one Blackboard Learning System server. Some common scenarios under which this might happen include:

- faculty member teaching at more than one institution
- student completing undergraduate education at one institution and starting graduate program at another institution
- student completing program at an institution, but not starting a program elsewhere

Scholar was designed to deal with these and other similar situations. Once Scholar account creation has occurred from one Blackboard Learning System server, then subsequent Blackboard Learning System servers can also be associated with the same Scholar account. That is, Scholar allows multiple Blackboard Learning System servers to be associated with one Scholar account.

Blackboard Scholar is designed to be accessed from multiple different Blackboard Learning System servers. For this to happen, each of these Blackboard Learning System servers will require the Blackboard Learning System server Building Block or Powerlink to be installed, configured and registered with the Blackboard Scholar service. From the end user's perspective this means that a link to Scholar is available from each Blackboard Learning System server. When a link to Scholar, within a Blackboard Learning System server, is clicked on for the first time by a user who has not previously done this from this particular Blackboard Learning System server, then the user will be presented with the option of associating this server with an existing Scholar account. By clicking on "Already a Scholar Member?" rather than the New User form and entering an existing Blackboard Scholar username and password, the new Blackboard Learning System server will be associated with the existing Blackboard Scholar username and password.

In the case where a user is no longer associated with an institution which has a Blackboard Learning System server e.g. a student who has graduated but not started another program, then the user is restricted to using Scholar directly from http://www.scholar.com, by entering their Blackboard Scholar username and password.
